Expression of Interest – AAP Executive Committee Positions

The AAP Executive Committee manages and administers the day-to-day operations of the Association. It supports the work of the Operating Committees and helps ensure the AAP achieves its objects under the Constitution. The Executive determines matters, and makes recommendations to the CEO and Board, concerning the direction and operations of the AAP. Individually and collectively, Executive members lead, direct, coordinate and oversee the Association's operations in accordance with Board approved policies, strategy and plans.

Executive members are expected to attend regular meetings, held via Zoom approximately 6-8 time per year. Additional tasks are allocated in line with each position description. The time commitment varies by role and month, but is expected to average 1-2 hours per week.

Expressions of Interest are open for the following positions:

  • Regional Director New Zealand
  • Ordinary Member with Executive liaison responsibility for the Media and Philosophy in the Community Committee

Term: 3 years, with the option to renew.

Nominations will be reviewed by the AAP’s Appointments and Recognition Committee, which will make recommendations to the Board.

Regional Director – New Zealand

One of the three Regional Director positions on the AAP Executive Committee.

Responsibilities include:

  • Attending meetings of the Heads network (held quarterly);
  • Reporting on matters concerning their Region to the Executive Committee and Heads network;
  • Monitoring their regional sector (Government, Public Service Departments, Granting Agencies etc.);
  • Developing and sustaining relationships with relevant HASS bodies (Academies, Deans’ Associations etc.);
  • Providing advice to the Executive on whether AAP submissions or actions relevant to their Region are warranted;
  • Drafting or organising submissions and responses to higher education sector issues as appropriate on the recommendation of the Executive; and
  • Providing the General Manager with appropriate information and documentation on Regional concerns and activities.

Ordinary Member with Executive Liaison for AAP Media and Philosophy in the Community Committees

One of three Ordinary Member positions on the AAP Executive Committee is currently vacant. This position includes liaison responsibility for the AAP’s Media and Philosophy in the Community Committees.

Responsibilities include:

  • Attending General Operating Committees meetings (held bi-annually);
  • Being a point of contact for their committees, providing advice and reporting back to the Executive;
  • Providing feedback to their Operating Committees arising from Executive Committee meetings;
  • Monitoring the Operational Plan and following up with their committees with respect to progress against the Operational Plan; and
  • Providing the General Manager with appropriate information and documentation of committee concerns and activities.
