Drop in to New Zealand’s oldest pub

Monday evening 9 July

Drop in to New Zealand’s oldest pub

The Thistle Inn, located just a few minutes’ walk from Rutherford House at 3 Mulgrave St, is offering AAP delegates a special deal for the duration of the conference. Head to the historic wooden tavern, in operation as a pub since 1840, and mention you’re with the AAP to receive reduced prices on drinks, and free platters of food for groups of 20 or more. A great opportunity to mingle with other philosophers while immersing yourself in Wellington’s rich history.

Pub, Politics and Philosophy – The PPP Pub Quiz

6:30 on Wednesday 11 July

Philosophers have had a lot to say about politics, government, human rights, justice and authority.  But how much do you really know about what they’ve said?  And how much does the general public really care?  Come to the Backbencher at 6:30 Wednesday 11 July to find out.

The quiz will have a mixture of politics and philosophy questions along with questions that will test your general knowledge.

This event is an opportunity for academic philosophers from around the world to meet and have a drink with members of the New Zealand public with an interest in philosophy and politics.

The Backbencher ( is an iconic pub in Wellington, adorned by satirical political puppets and just a short walk from the New Zealand parliament buildings.

Places are limited. Please register here.  Teams of four or five will be assigned, and teams will be encouraged to find members of the public to join their team on the night.  If you would like other philosophers on your team, you can indicate that on the registration form (but we can’t guarantee everyone will be matched to their preferences).
